Winter Bushwhack and Campout
Location: John Bryan State Park
Mark your calendars for the upcoming Winter Bushwhack hike and campout at John Bryan State Park.
Troop 96 participated in this annual event last December and everyone had a great time. Again this year, we plan to make this event into a winter campout. We will depart Covenant Presbyterian Church on Friday at 5:00 PM for the 1-˝ hour drive to John Bryan State Park near Yellow Springs, Ohio. We will set up our campsite and prepare for our hike.
Since 1984, Troop 184 in Union City, Ohio has sponsored this annual 10-mile hike. There is no special date for this event, and Troops that register plan their own hike during the winter months each year. The hike is ten miles long hiking along the only National Scenic River in Ohio, the Little Miami River. There are many historic things to see along the trail and the scenery along Clifton Gorge and the Little Miami River is spectacular.
Our troop and patrols have begun planning for this campout. Since this will be in December with the possibility of some cold weather, we have been discussing what to bring and what events the boys want to accomplish during this outing. This promises to be an exciting campout and hike and everyone seems to be looking forward to this event. We will return to Columbus on Sunday about noon. The cost for this campout is $25.00 per person, which includes campground fees, and Saturday and Sunday meals. We will eat Friday dinner on the way. Scouts should bring extra money for Friday’s dinner and Sunday breakfast.
Come to Troop Meetings if you want more information and want to have input into this or any other outdoor event.
